Audiowood

by El Rudos

Joe Scilley (not Scully) is a carpenter, handyman and artist based in Oakland, California. Essentially a traditionalist, he specialises in building fences, playhouses and wine racks. Or at least he did, until he unleashed the awesome potential of some of his most local commodities.

Audiowood is a division of his business that sells beautifully crafted vinyl record decks made from the trunk, wood and bark of trees. The result is a stunning contrast between the most rustic and the most modern influences of contemporary design. With enough talent to produce an entire range of decks, they are available for sale from his website, and comprise of an astonishing amount of diversity between designs. My personal favourite would have to be the sleek, circular trunk design of the Barky. But if you preferred the chunky Big Red, I couldn’t blame you. Good wood.
