“The only real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes” Marcel Proust
Paperself, the London based design collective is pushing the frontiers of ethical beauty into a new dimension. Founded by Chunwei Liao in 2009, the aim of Paperself is to unite artists, designers and manufacturers from East to West in offering contemporary alternatives for eco-conscious living.
All too often the word “innovative” is banded around in the world of product design which, in my opinion, only serves to enforce an acute sense of cynicism – and ennui. Then something comes along that reminds me of this skeptic mindset and really challenges convention; that something is Paperself Eyelashes – a fantasy paper eyelash collection.
Based on the tradition art of Chinese paper cutting, these intricate false eyelashes are not only an ode to traditional culture but also pure design magic. Paperself are “transcending traditions and promoting the perception of paper through new eyes”. A brand new interpretation to playfully provoke the mind – and it’s working!
Serving up equal portions of charm, fantasy and whim, Paperself Eyelashes are available in a variety of designs ranging from impish clown lashes to peacock, peach blossom and ponies through to the more distinctive butterfly and deer composite. All styles are available in full or corner only lashes. Complete wanderlust yes, le sigh… so why not treat yourself to some ephemeral eye glamour at any of these mighty fine stockists.
