So young. So inspired. So inspiring… SEX!
Uh huh. Oh, wow! This surmises our attitude towards this week; we’ve big plans ahoy and need to tackle the next few days with full force so we’re filling our minds with concentrated measures of extreme inspiration. Today’s supersized chunk of inspiration is Elliot Joseph Rentz (AKA Rentz), a 17-year old designer hailing from Brighton who recently relocated to London.
Self taught having never studied fashion in the biblical sense, Rentz’s ethos is crystal clear: “anything can happen”. Depicted in his latest body of work is this sentiment, a tongue-in-cheek dance on the dark side, he plays upon motifs with body suits, fierce metal studs and asymmetric shapes in the SS11 “SEX” collection.
Exploration without adhesion to rules or etiquette is apparent but it works. SEX is a defined aesthetic; awkward, contradictory and yet with a softer, more subtle sense of humility.
The campaign’s promo (featured above), filmed by Luke Nugent, is staunch but playful and compelling in line with the collection. Dedication to his juxtaposed vision is evident from the designer and the film, with its handful of behind-the-scenes outtakes, Barbiesque model even the council estate location, to contribute to this very astute and inspired campaign.
If this is what Rentz can achieve so young, the fashion world should keep a watchful eye on this one! In short, Rentz is hella inspiring.
Okay, so we’re off to bribe the mail monkey with extra bananas to prevent our junk filter freaking out off the back of this post but for those of you with an insatiable appetite for design, fashion or sex, you can always view some other selected works by Elliot Joseph Rentz.
