When art and film collide, good things invariably happen!
Chasing Cotards is a high profile short film, beautifully shot, with stunning production design, cinematography evoking classic Hollywood elegance. Created by a highly experienced and incredible team of creative film makers, many of which have high exposure films such as Harry Potter, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Braveheart (to name but a few!) on their personal list of credentials. By no means is this some B-rate homespun endeavour!
The project was shot on a Vista Vision Camera so that it could be projected onto the BFI IMAX Cinema literally making it… The Biggest Short Film Of All Time!
The Chasing Cotards Story & Cast
Once a successful artist, Hart is now a shadow of his former self, his world torn apart by loss. He is consumed by a haunting portrait of his deceased wife and spends every moment studying her face, unable to forget. Knowing that she was taken away from him too soon, all he wishes is that she would return to breathe life into his world once more.
Andrew Scott ”Hart” and Oliver Grant ”Elizabeth” appear as the confirmed cast for Chasing Cotards. Andrew’s prolific acting career spans film, television and theatre. Winner of an Olivier Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement’, ‘Best Actor’ at the Irish Film & TV Awards and being named a ‘Shooting Star’ at the Berlin FS. Andrew’s film experience includes his work for Steven Spielberg in ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and opposite Ewan McGregor in ‘Nora’. Olivia is fast becoming a star of the British screen, best known for her portrayal of Lady Adelaide Midwinter in ‘Lark Rise to Candleford’. Her other credits include ‘Fishtales’, the forthcoming Howard Marks biopic ‘Mr Nice’, opposite Rhys Ifans and playing the lead role of Grace Darling in BBC Three drama ‘Personal Affairs’. Chasing Cotards “Art for Sale” Fundraiser
Chasing Cotards are on the lookout for supporters who want to be involved with this exciting film project and to help support Britsh Film. The film has been shot but there is still lots to do to get it ready for its IMAX premiere. And this costs… a lot!
Christine Comyn, the artist behind the film’s haunting portrait upon which the story oscillates, has pledged her support to raise funding for Chasing Cotards.
“I come to you with a tear in my eye and a warm feeling in my heart. Our extremely talented artist Christine Comyn and her lovely manager Yvan De Backer have offered us something very special indeed.” - Edward L Dark, Director, Chasing Cotards
Christine (pictured above in her studio) is not one of these artists who simply knock out paintings every week. She is a highly acclaimed and respected artist in Europe and all over the world. Christine works when the art grabs her, when she feels inspired enough to paint, and when that happens – magic is created on large canvases.
In collaboration with Absolute Art Gallery, the company that showcases Christine’s work, the artist has offered the film makers the chance to sell the paintings on her behalf. The deal is this: if they sell the two paintings featured in the short, half of the proceeds will go to Christine and the other half towards funding for Chasing Cotards.
The ”Art For Sale” fundraising paintings, featured below, are available exclusively via Absolute Art Gallery. All enquiries via Edward Dark or Samantha Fazackerley.
So… if you are looking to hang some breath taking art in your home, or if you would like to assist Chasing Cotards jump over that final fundraising hurdle or if you simply have an affection towards the project and would like memorabilia from the biggest short film of all time, this is your chance!
Chasing Cotards will be screened at London’s BFI IMAX cinema on April 24, 2010. Follow the Director’s Diary for the latest news.
