Memento mori… to die for?!
In true Damien Hirst style, his latest series of painted skulls offer a contemporary, daring and unique twist on the subject of death – comedy. Bright, colourful and lighthearted in appearance, the skulls are as engaging as they are inspiring, seemingly the concept of death becomes more accessible, less intimidating.
This bittersweet moment soons transcends as their fixed stare calls on your respect for ancient ritual; celebratory, philosophical, stoic.
The skull is one of a number of recurring motifs not only in Damien Hirst’s work but also in the history of art and, in this special edition, has been reworked back in to his signature.
The Collection:
50 painted skulls in 3 categories manifested as 3 variations of form: Hallucinatory Head, Hypnotic Head and Transcendent Head, with each skull a unique result of the now famous and highly sought after ‘Spin’ painting technique.
Suffice to say, all I want for Halloween is… a “spin” painted Damien Hirst skull! But remember (rich) kids, Hirst is for life (and death) not just for Halloween!
