The Cupcaketologist’s recipe for making magic, marathons and money… in aid of Christopher’s Smile

On March 21, our filly from Philly, the super rad Jessica Pizzo a.k.a The Cupcaketologist (pictured above with her father) will be putting in some hard miles (just over 13 of them in fact!) in the Fleet Half Marathon to raise awareness and vital research funds for children’s charity, Christopher’s Smile.

Founded in October 2008 by Karen and Kevin Capel following the tragic death of their only son Christopher from medulloblastoma, an aggressive childhood brain tumor,  Christopher’s Smile aims to raise money to fund development of new drugs to treat medulloblastoma and other childhood cancers without devastating side effects.

Like us, Karen and Kevin are big believers in the power of collaboration and the underlying belief that ultimately more can be achieved if people work with one another rather than against. As a result, researchers funded by Christopher’s Smile, collaborate with those doing similar research around the world.

In true Jess-style, she has been mentally and physically preparing in her own unique way; hitting the treadmill (hard!) whilst being snowed in for endless days armed with Pearl Jam, Raconteurs and Ice Cube as her cohorts, slammed her way though to the semi-finals of a real tennis tournament and even found time and a lil’ solace indulging (pre-Lent) in her epic kitchen creations like The “This Is Why You’re Fat” Tuesday Cupcake!

When asked what else she had planned in the build up to the big day she simply said, “In light of it all, I decided to throw a little soirée, combining two great things for one good cause: Cupcakes and Champagne! I am convinced that lovely little things can make magic happen.”

The official Cupcakes for a Cause party is tonight, we are beyond gutted we cannot be there as it will definitely be one helluva party!

Jessica’s hometown of Philadelphia, USA just so happens to boast one of the leading pediatric hospitals and research facilities in the world, the wonderful Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and who knows, maybe thanks to Jess’ adventures, they may consider working in collaboration with Christopher’s Smile. Thanks to Sister Serendipty, whilst planning her Cupcakes for a Cause party, Jess was introduced to one of the key researchers at CHOP who will be in attendance at tonight’s soirée to help promote the cause and aid understanding. So, it would appear, the recipe is quite simple…

Collaboration + cupcakes + champagne + serendipity = the recipe for magic!

Unashamed, very blatant plea

Not only does our gal pal totally kick ass in the kitchen, on the track, on the court but she does in real life too. Jess is a truly awesome, inspiring, funny and loyal friend (ya’ll should be jealous!) and how she finds the time to do all of this still remains a mystery to us! Please, please just know that she totally rocks, is flying in from the States (at her expense) to put herself through brutal agony all in the name of an incredible charity and to make a difference to little people and their family’s life.

This is an unashamed, very blatant plea to sponsor Jess to run the Fleet Half Marathon.

100% of your sponsorhsip money will go direct to Christopher’s Smile, which means every single penny raised will fund research in the battle against kids’ cancer. F*ck the poxy recession, this matters.

Sponsor The Cupcaketologist!
