Winter’s Moon
Custom Big Cartel Theme Design & Development
Custom Big Cartel store theme for Chichester based vintage design company, Winter’s Moon. Take a trip down Nostalgia Lane…
Chichester based vintage company, Winter’s Moon, asked for a complete web space makeover to showcase the very best of their vintage finds. The web store features all manner of decorative pieces for styling your home including an array of nostalgic kids’ toys, limited edition prints, upcycled and reinvented treasure and interior design classics like the iconic furniture by Ercol from the 60′s and 70′s.
The overall store’s theme is modern minimalist. The aim, to avoid overshadowing the goods but keeping a slight retro, letterpress feel to allude to the iconic and vintage wares they curate. Winter’s Moon were also keen to have the store really reflect their brand image; approachable, friendly and design centric but without the typical (and often over-used) aesthetic associations with “vintage”… something stylish, not super frou!
Custom Store Features
Categories: We tinkered with the way the relatively new “artist” feature on Big Cartel worked so that it could work as a visual menu for the categories e.g. Textiles, Oddities We Love… see example below (far left).
Product Page Images: The other main modification to the store’s functionality was changing the image sizes, the Winter’s Moon ladies wanted bigger images on the main product pages (see example, second from left below)… this seemingly easy request required a cheeky little script to be written to overcome Big Cartel’s fixed image size of 300 pixels – and a lot of testing to ensure cross browser compatibility!
Other features: social media optimisation (SMO), easy-to-update home page banners, custom contact form, shopping cart, breadcrumbs and all the other good things you’d expect from a custom store theme plus a custom WordPress blog theme for their latest news and press archive.
