Neon Monster
Custom WordPress Theme Design & Development
Custom WordPress blog theme for San Francisco based art collective and designer toy store, Neon Monster. Ponder or discuss the latest news from The Keepers of the Dayglow Beasts.
Creating a brand recognisable blog to accompany the The Bestiary microsite formed the other half of our project undertakings with our fluoro friends, Neon Monster.
Similar to the microsite, the custom blog theme is an intrinsic part of the storytelling, where users discover more about the monsters and their individual characters and interest. Each monster, and each of the Keepers of the Dayglow Beasts, contribute to the blog and provide a daily dose of anything from lowbrow art to custom toys to comic book reviews as well as exclusive columns and features such as Meet Your Maker, where the monsters (or their keepers) interview some of the most iconic and inspirational artists within the scene.
As the Neon Monster story continually evolves, we built the blog using open source platform, WordPress. We can rely on its stability while offering limitless creativity and functionality in the form of a custom theme and plugins to our clients, now and in the future. WordPress is highly expandable, flexible and future proof. As their business grows, their blog can grow with them, the options are infinite.
Custom Blog Features
Aside from the completely unique WordPress theme design, we had a blast creating custom comment forms for each “character” (not so much fun coding all of them individually, but we love a challenge!) in appropriate styles. For example, Dr. Dayglow’s comment form is in the style of a prescription, as featured below, whereas classical music loving Mitch, their depressive cyclops prefers the user to leave a message by signing his record sleeve… and, well you get the gist. Head over to the blog to see them all!
Other features: full social media optimisation (SMO), unique character / contributor category front end output and a bespoke built multi image upload and management system, this very practical plugin has proved pretty handy when reviewing art / art multiples as regularly as our friends do. Their fans love all the art and event photos and our client loves not having to uploading each image individually!
