The Godfather of Punk’s Funeral

A-list celebs, punks and goths alike united in Central London on April 22nd, 2010 to pay their respects to Malcolm McLaren, dubbed “The Godfather of Punk”. The funeral procession ebbed its way through Camden Town to the deconsecrated One Marylebone Church.

Coz kids get cancer too.

September 10, 2009 was a big day for me. For those of you who read about Swim2Bestival this will come as no surprise, for those that are yet to read it, please do. On that sunny Thursday morning eleven rubber-clad strangers and I nervously congregated in an empty car park at Stokes Bay, Gosport. Not the usual start to my daily routine I can assure you! Split Dreams VW Campervan Hire website goes live!

Love at first sight.

Dressed to impress and oozing “cool” yep, I’m not ashamed to admit Cecil was my kind of guy! As I stood, wide-eyed and open mouthed, I realised that this was one of those chance encounters that just doesn’t happen everyday and, in the heat of the moment, as my mind tried to compute the situation, my legs took over and hurtled me towards him. My mind raced, desperately trying to verbalise… anything… and as I drew near the only words I could burst out of my mouth were “SWEET VAN!” Read more…

Wedding wishes and thoughts from Blighty

Greta & Jeremy Brautman

For those of you that don’t already know, and you really ought to, today is the day Greta and Jeremy will remember for the rest of their lives. Early this week they hitched a ride on the love train from Berkeley to Brooklyn. Today they got married.

Judging by Jeremy’s emails and tweets over the week gone by, in the unavoidable and frantic lead up to “the big day”, things appear to have been bizarrely reminiscent of a Woody Allen movie, “the difference is the location” (Jeremy’s words). Read more…

YrWall | Interactive Digital Graffiti Wall from Lumacoustics on Vimeo.

Off the wall. No solvents, no drips, no runs.

With so many tedious and laborious tasks being made quicker and easier via the interweb it should come as no great surprise that you can even co-exist via your own pseudo ‘digital you’. Thanks to websites such as Second Life you can live out all of your wildest dreams and perversions anonymously in an ever-evolving 3D fantasy world. Read more…

Bittersweet. Disdain vs. delight.

Aversion. I make no disillusion over my sentiments for the month of October… or so I thought…

Having never been an aesthete of all things autumnal, my original intent had been to write this post about my disdain for blustery, sodden October with its omnipotent imposing sense of dark foreboding. However, when I actually sought to collect my thoughts, in the vaguest semblance of order, it took very little time indeed to realise that just maybe I had passed judgement a little too prematurely. Delboy swims the Solent for charity and a free Bestival ticket!

3.5 miles in cold, choppy waters across a busy ferry route…

Our very own Delboy was among 12 festival goers who opted to swim 3.5 miles across the incredibly cold, choppy waters of the Solent from Gosport to Ryde, Isle of Wight, in aid of charity. The event, Swim2Bestival, aims to help raise awareness and money for 3 great causes: Imbala which supports putting underprivileged children through their education in South Africa; St Catherine’s, a national charity working with children and young people with speech, language and communication disabilities and; Christopher’s Smile, a campaign set up at The Institute of Cancer Research which is run by the parents of a 5-year old child called Christopher who died in June this year from a childhood cancer called ‘medulloblastoma’. The all-nighter is something that many people (particularly creatives and nerds) find themselves having to contend with. I prefer to work at night; I find I get more done in the hours of 12pm – 5am than I will most days. No phone calls, no emails, no meetings. Silent. Bliss. Having pretty much mastered the art of the all-nighter over the last few years, I figured I’d share some pointers. Here’s my Official All-Nighter Survival Checklist: Read more…

The San Juan Surf (Ad)venture

As the saying goes; a change is as good as a rest. One of our graphic designers, Charlie Brown (that is her real name) decided that the sea down on the south coast, in our local spot on Wittering, could no longer satisfy her love of surfing in her spare time. Having worked with some leading design agencies including Deep and the Nokia design team and with clients such as the Ritz Hotel, Piccadilly and Centenary; she now, as well as working with The Neon Hive, is changing the face of San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua.
