Q: What happens when the designer’s designer collaborates with the designer’s best friend?
A: Some mighty fine techno-babes are born! And they’re so super hot every product designer, geek and gadget fanatic will be wanting one of their very own. Well, cutting edge technology all wrapped up in super sleek styling… who wouldn’t be a sucker?!
French product designer, Philippe Starck has completed his latest collaboration with LaCie – the computer peripheral company often favoured by designers.
Collaboration between these two superpowers first happened back in the 90’s when Starck designed the first series of designer hard drives. This new era of LaCie by STARCK features models in two sizes, for desktop and mobile use. Both feature thick aluminum casing which envelopes an organic, reflective form inside. The mobile version is an ergonomic, ellipse form whilst the larger desktop model is bold, rectangular and oh, so striking, along with a sexy little design detail – Starck’s signature “+” sign in an orange LED.
Both models feature a special surface which, upon touching, will launch the application of your choice depending on the duration of your touch. So smooth. So very smooth indeed. The desktop model is available in 1TB and 2TB versions whilst the smaller mobile version boasts 320GB and 500GB capacities.

I could swoon over these beauties lots, lots more but it would be incredibly boring and the time really would be much better spent backing up every mac in the studio so that I have the perfect (and legitimate) excuse for an imminent LaCie by STARCK investment!
